AC Milan have officially completed the signing of Belgian defender Koni De Winter from Genoa for a package worth around €20 million including bonuses, marking a swift and decisive transfer move for the Rossoneri.
Deal Details and Terms
The agreement reportedly comprises an €18 million base fee, topped up by €2 million in add-ons, and Genoa settled on this valuation despite initially holding out for €25 million. Juventus will receive around 20–25 percent of the total fee thanks to their sell-on clause from De Winter’s previous move.
Rapid Progression from Bid to Booking
Initial reports indicated that AC Milan submitted a €20 million opening bid, which Genoa considered serious, and worked quickly toward finalising terms. A verbal agreement was reached, paving the way for medicals in Milan early in the week. Milan’s urgency was driven by the imminent departure of Malick Thiaw to Newcastle United for around €40 million.
Why De Winter Was the Priority
De Winter emerged as Milan’s top target, especially compared to Giovanni Leoni from Parma, whose €40 million valuation proved too steep. De Winter offered experience, affordability and familiarity, having worked under Allegri during their Juventus days.
Personal Terms and Contract
The Belgian centre-back has reportedly signed a five-year contract with AC Milan, earning approximately €1.8 million per season. He is expected to don the number 5 jersey for the Rossoneri.
From Youth Prospect to Senior Rossonero
Hailing from Antwerp and trained in youth setups including Juventus, De Winter joined Genoa via an initial loan with obligatory purchase around €10 million in 2024. In the 2024–25 season he made 25 appearances with 3 goals, earning senior caps for Belgium.
