Arsenal are monitoring Como attacking midfielder Nico Paz, though any potential transfer is heavily complicated by a buy-back clause held by Real Madrid, according to reports. The 21-year-old playmaker, who has excelled in Serie A under manager Cesc Fàbregas, is understood to prefer an eventual return to Spain, where Real Madrid hold a highly favourable option to re-acquire his services.
Madrid buy-back clause limits Arsenal hopes
According to reports from Defensa Central and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid possess a structured buy-back option on Paz. The clause is initially set at €9 million (£7.5 million) and rises to €10 million (£8.3 million) in 2027. This contractual mechanism severely restricts Arsenal’s ability to secure a straightforward permanent transfer. Because the Spanish giants can easily trigger their modest buy-back fee, Como are not in full control of the player's long-term destination. Romano previously reported that Tottenham Hotspur had a €70 million (£58.3 million) package rejected for Paz in August 2025, after the player chose to remain in Italy with an eye on his future at the Bernabéu.
Exceptional form under Fàbregas in Italy
Paz has developed rapidly since his permanent move to Como in August 2024. Under the guidance of Fàbregas, the Argentine midfielder recorded six goals and eight assists in 30 Serie A starts last term. He has carried that stellar form into the current campaign, registering three goals and three assists in his opening five league starts. Although Real Madrid opted against activating their €9 million option in June 2026 to allow him another season of development, his skyrocketing market valuation means any future pursuit by Mikel Arteta’s side will require navigating Madrid’s preferential rights. At present, Arsenal’s interest remains at an exploratory stage, with no official bid launched.
