Barcelona Target Pedro Porro As Koundé Interest Emerges From Chelsea And Bayern

Barcelona are prioritising a move for Tottenham's Pedro Porro, a transfer contingent on offloading Jules Koundé, who has attracted interest from Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

Barcelona's Right-Back Target

Barcelona have identified Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro as a primary target to reinforce their right-back position, according to reports in El Nacional. Manager Hansi Flick is understood to view the 27-year-old Spaniard as a key tactical addition capable of providing attacking width and technical synergy with Lamine Yamal on the right flank. The club’s desire for this specific profile is driven by a tactical ambition to optimise the right-wing dynamic, with Flick reportedly prioritizing Porro’s offensive output and ability to operate in half-spaces.

However, financial constraints dictate that Barcelona cannot execute such a transfer without first generating significant revenue to balance the books. Reports indicate that the club needs to raise approximately €50 million in transfer capital to facilitate the move, placing the future of existing squad members under scrutiny.

The Koundé Situation

To facilitate the pursuit of Porro, Barcelona are open to offloading Jules Koundé. The 27-year-old defender, who joined Barcelona from Sevilla in 2022, has seen his playing time fluctuate during the 2026-27 season. As reported by El Nacional, Chelsea have inquired about the defender's situation, and Bayern Munich have also been identified as potential suitors.

Chelsea’s interest in the France international is well-documented, with the Stamford Bridge club having previously pushed to sign the player in 2022 before he completed his move to Spain. While Chelsea, now under the management of Xabi Alonso, remain connected to the defender, reports suggest that any move would depend on the financial terms involved. Koundé has recorded 11 goals and 22 assists during his time at Barcelona.

Squad Depth at Chelsea

While Chelsea are monitoring Koundé, their existing squad composition at right-back and wing-back may influence any potential recruitment. The club currently possesses Reece James, Malo Gusto, and Marco Palestra as established options in that area. Additionally, Chelsea have experimented with utilising Pedro Neto as a wing-back this season, further bolstering the depth available to Xabi Alonso.

Tottenham’s Contractual Leverage

Barcelona’s pursuit of Pedro Porro faces a significant obstacle in Tottenham Hotspur’s contractual leverage. As confirmed by Mundo Deportivo, the defender signed a contract extension in June 2026 that commits his future to the north London club until 2031. This long-term commitment grants Tottenham control over negotiations, making any potential exit during the January transfer window a challenging prospect. Porro has registered 13 goals and 26 assists across 156 appearances for Tottenham since joining from Sporting CP in 2023.
