Celtic playmaker Benjamin Nygren has confirmed that he was the subject of concrete summer transfer interest from Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur, but chose to remain in Glasgow to continue his development. Speaking to reporters as first reported by The Daily Record, the 25-year-old Swedish attacker admitted there was active interest in his services but insisted his immediate focus remains entirely on performing for the Scottish champions.
"Yeah, there was interest," Nygren said. "Did it get more than interest? No, I play for a big club. I wanted to stay here and continue to make it good. When the right time is, the right time is. But it's not something I think of. It's not my focus. My focus is just to do it as well as possible here and to win more trophies here."
Celtic Stood Firm After Key Midfield Departures
Nygren joined Celtic from Danish club Nordsjælland for a reported £1.75 million and went on to enjoy an explosive debut campaign under manager Martin O'Neill, scoring 21 goals and registering nine assists in all competitions. His retention became a priority for the Parkhead board after a lucrative summer window that saw Celtic raise more than £45 million through the sales of key assets Arne Engels, Daizen Maeda, and Reo Hatate.
According to FootballTransfers, Nygren's Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €5.4 million following his brilliant form. He has made a blistering start to the current campaign, in which he has already registered five goals and six assists in just 10 matches.
Future Premier League Move Dictated By Right Timing
Despite missing out on Champions League qualification following a qualification defeat in Austria, Nygren remains eager to test himself in the Europa League this term. He added that while he harbours ambitions to play at the highest level, any future decision will require complete agreement between himself, Celtic, and any prospective buying club.
