Chelsea are monitoring the progress of Brighton & Hove Albion defender Luka Vušković as part of a wider scouting list for the summer 2027 transfer window, according to reports. The 19-year-old Croatian international, who joined Brighton in July 2026, has attracted attention from a host of elite European clubs including Barcelona and Bayern Munich, although no formal negotiations have commenced at this stage.
Brighton Positioned for Long-Term Development
Vušković signed a five-year deal at the Amex Stadium following his arrival from Tottenham Hotspur in a package worth approximately €54 million (£46 million guaranteed plus £4 million in add-ons). The agreement, which runs until 2031, ensures that Brighton are under no immediate pressure to sell. The club's current recruitment model centres on identifying high-potential talent for long-term development, and they retain significant leverage should any of Europe's top clubs look to formalise their interest in the future.
Competing Interests and Squad Requirements
While Chelsea retain interest in the centre-back despite the recent signing of Maxence Lacroix, the landscape of potential suitors is competitive. Bayern Munich are understood to be tracking the defender as a long-term option, with their potential movement contingent on clearing space in their defensive rotation, specifically regarding the futures of Kim Min-jae and Hiroki Ito. Barcelona have also been linked, as the Spanish side continues to navigate financial constraints while targeting younger defensive reinforcements.
A Proven Prospect
Vušković has quickly integrated into Fabian Hürzeler’s side, making 12 appearances across all competitions this season and helping the club to a strong start in the Premier League. His development has been rapid since his time on loan at Hamburger SV during the 2025-26 campaign, where he scored six goals in 28 league matches. Any prospective deal for the defender would likely require a substantial financial premium given the initial club-record fee paid by Brighton and the lengthy duration remaining on his contract.
