Liverpool are reportedly considering a move for former Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal to ease their current injury crisis at right-back. The 34-year-old Spain international is currently a free agent after his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu expired on 1 July 2026, ending an 11-year spell that yielded six Champions League titles.

Speaking on TNT Sports, former England defender Joleon Lescott revealed that the veteran full-back is on the radar at Anfield. "I think there’s talk of Liverpool, Carvajal, right back," Lescott stated during a recent broadcast. While there are currently no formal talks or bids in place between the club and the player's representatives, the interest comes as Liverpool navigate a significant shortage of defensive options.
Squad depth issues force recruitment rethink
Liverpool's search for short-term cover has been prompted by a series of injuries in defence. Conor Bradley is currently sidelined and is not expected to return until November, while Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni are also injured. This leaves summer signing Jeremie Frimpong as the club's only fully fit, senior right-back. Though Barcelona loanee Ronald Araujo has deputised in the role, Carvajal represents a highly experienced option who could slot straight into the squad.
However, any prospective move would carry risks. Carvajal was limited to 23 appearances for Real Madrid during the 2025-26 season as he struggled with fitness issues, and his age profile contrasts with Liverpool's typical long-term recruitment strategy.
