Getafe president Ángel Torres has confirmed that the La Liga side have submitted a final offer to Jadon Sancho, marking a significant escalation in their attempts to sign the former Manchester United winger. Sancho, 26, has been without a club since his contract at Old Trafford expired in June 2026, and Getafe are now attempting to lure the England international to Spain to bolster their squad for their Europa Conference League campaign.
A Long-Term Pursuit
Torres revealed on El Partidazo de COPE on October 15 that the club has been working on a potential deal for four months. "Llevo cuatro meses detrás de Jadon Sancho, se ha quedado libre y le hemos pasado una última oferta," Torres stated. The Getafe president acknowledged that the operation is complex, given the player's profile and the financial regulations governing Spanish football. He noted that the club is prepared to be patient, adding, "We need to be patient, not put pressure on him, and let him decide for himself."
Financial Constraints and Market Competition
Securing a player of Sancho's stature presents considerable hurdles for Getafe, who operate under strict La Liga salary cap limitations. Reports indicate that Sancho has been seeking wages between €4 million and €5 million per annum—a valuation that is currently incompatible with Getafe's roster limits without significant intervention. To register recent free-agent signing Dani Carvajal, Torres was required to provide personal financial guarantees, and any deal for the former Aston Villa loanee would likely necessitate similar measures or the creation of additional wage room through squad departures or medical exemptions.
Torres admitted awareness of competing interest from outside of Europe, stating, "I know he's got offers from Qatar and from a number of other places." Despite this, Getafe remain optimistic that the allure of competing in one of Europe’s major leagues and the prospect of continental football can convince the winger to accept terms more aligned with their financial structure.
The Rebuild Strategy
Getafe’s interest in Sancho is part of a broader strategy to utilise the free-agent market to strengthen their squad depth. Having successfully integrated experienced figures such as Dani Carvajal, who joined on a contract until June 2027, the club is keen to replicate their past success in reviving careers. The Getafe hierarchy believes that providing a platform in La Liga could be the catalyst needed for Sancho to rediscover the form that once made him one of the continent's most sought-after attackers. With no official timeline set for a decision, the club continues to monitor the situation, leaving the next step entirely in the hands of the player and his representatives.
