Midfield overhaul and Obi-Martin departure
United’s window was defined by a significant midfield reshape, with Michael Carrick securing Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Carlos Baleba. Speaking to Sky Sports, Carrick expressed his satisfaction with the window, stating: "I think we've brought some really good players into the football club, and improved the squad in different ways, individually but collectively. I think we've grown... I'm convinced we are [stronger]." The midfield influx facilitated structural adjustments elsewhere. Obi-Martin’s temporary switch to Willem II, finalised on 2 September as the Dutch window shut, ensures the young forward receives regular senior minutes. This development followed United's late refusal to let fellow forward Zirkzee join Everton, rebuffing a £10m loan package because it left insufficient time to source a replacement.
Mane pursuit blocked and left-back priorities
While United looked to the future, TEAMtalk reports that both United and Liverpool held discussions with Wolves regarding Mateus Mane. However, the recently relegated Midlands club flatly refused to sanction a deal for the highly-rated 18-year-old. Despite these attacking and midfield additions, United's inability to recruit a specialist left-back remains a key talking point. Having failed to land a senior option, Carrick chose to retain academy prospect Harry Amass rather than sending him out on loan. This unresolved defensive gap is highly likely to dominate United’s recruitment plans heading into the January transfer window.
