Lionel Messi has extended his Inter Miami stay through 2028, whilst Alexis Mac Allister questions his Liverpool future and James Rodríguez holds advanced Serie B talks.

Inter Miami CF have officially confirmed that Argentina forward Lionel Messi has signed a contract extension keeping him at the MLS club through the 2028 season, following reports from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano that an agreement was very close to completion. Mac Allister admits sadness over Liverpool contract stance

Alexis Mac Allister has revealed his frustration regarding his contract situation at Anfield, admitting he is sad that Liverpool have not offered him an extension. The 27-year-old midfielder, who has two years remaining on his current deal, made the admission ahead of Liverpool's Champions League fixtures. Mac Allister also disclosed that he rejected opportunities to leave the Merseyside club during the summer transfer window.

“I’m happy for Gravenberch. I’m happy for Szoboszlai. They are renewing their contracts. It’s beautiful to see my teammates getting a contract. But it’s also making me sad to see that the club is not offering me a new deal,” Mac Allister stated.

The midfielder added that his future at the club will depend on his performances this year, hoping Anfield decision-makers will alter their stance.

Nesta drives Avellino move for free agent James Rodríguez

In Italy, Serie B club Avellino are working to complete the ambitious signing of free-agent midfielder James Rodríguez. The 35-year-old, who recently left the MLS, is in advanced negotiations with the Italian second-division side. According to reports from Marca, Avellino head coach Alessandro Nesta personally phoned the former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich midfielder to convince him to join the project.

Avellino have offered Rodríguez a contract until June 2027. The agreement reportedly contains an optional extension for the 2028 season, which would be triggered if the club secures promotion to Serie A. Rodríguez has already rejected alternative proposals, including a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, as he prioritises a return to European football.
