Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal to sign James McAtee from Manchester City as they continue to strengthen their midfield ahead of the new Premier League season. The 22 year old is set to join for a fee in the region of €25 million, with personal terms already agreed. McAtee will undergo a medical in the coming days before officially becoming a Forest player.
Rising talent with top level experience
McAtee is regarded as one of the brightest prospects to come through Manchester City’s academy in recent years. Known for his close control, vision and ability to find pockets of space, he has drawn comparisons to City legend David Silva. He spent last season on loan at Sheffield United where he gained valuable Premier League experience despite the team’s struggles.
Why Nottingham Forest want James McAtee
Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo has been looking for a creative midfielder to link play and provide more attacking threat from central areas. McAtee fits that profile perfectly, offering the technical quality to unlock defences and the work rate to contribute defensively. His versatility means he can operate as a number ten or in a deeper playmaking role.
Manchester City stance
While City are sad to lose a player they have developed since his early teens, the competition for places in Pep Guardiola’s squad is fierce. With established stars and other emerging talents ahead of him, McAtee’s opportunities at the Etihad were likely to be limited this season. The transfer provides City with a solid fee while giving McAtee the chance to play regularly at a high level.
Nottingham Forest summer business
The signing of James McAtee continues a busy summer for Nottingham Forest who are determined to avoid another relegation battle. They are also close to finalising a deal for winger Omari Hutchinson from Chelsea, further boosting their attacking options. The club’s ambition in the transfer market signals their intent to climb the table and establish themselves as a stable Premier League side.
Forest fans will be eager to see McAtee in action, hoping his creativity and composure can help the team take a step forward this season. For McAtee, the move offers the opportunity to play a central role in an ambitious project and continue his development in one of the most competitive leagues in the world
