Marc Bernal Casas To Chelsea: What We Know

Marc Bernal is attracting January transfer interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, but the Barcelona midfielder intends to remain at Camp Nou under Hansi Flick.

Rumour status: Multiple independent sources.

Chelsea and Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal ahead of the January transfer window. The 19-year-old is highly regarded at Camp Nou, where he is under contract until June 2029 with a €500 million release clause. While Premier League interest is growing, a mid-season departure remains highly unlikely.

The TransferNews database records that Barcelona are already working to secure Bernal’s long-term future. Sporting director Deco met with the player’s representatives on 9 September 2026 to discuss a contract extension until 2031, which would include a salary increase. Manager Hansi Flick also views the teenager as an integral part of his squad, placing him ahead of Frenkie de Jong in his midfield hierarchy despite the club's acquisition of Rodri.

Bernal, who recently returned from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, has publicly committed to his current club, stating he has no interest in a loan to Girona or a permanent transfer. He will only consider an exit if explicitly asked to leave by the Barcelona board. Unless Barcelona's financial constraints force a sudden sale, Bernal is expected to remain in Spain beyond the winter window.
