Fabián Ruiz Peña To Chelsea: What We Know
Chelsea are monitoring midfield targets, including PSG's Fabián Ruiz, after failing to secure a direct replacement for Enzo Fernández following his £125 million move to Manchester City.
Chelsea's midfield plans remain in flux following the British record £125 million departure of Enzo Fernández to Manchester City. While the club sanctioned the landmark sale, they were unable to secure an immediate successor before the transfer deadline. Unsuccessful deadline day enquiries for Monaco's Lamine Camara and Roma's Manu Koné left head coach Xabi Alonso short of options in central midfield.
Reports have since linked Chelsea with a move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabián Ruiz. The 30-year-old Spaniard is contracted to the French champions until June 2027 and is valued at around €30 million. Ruiz represents a technically sound, experienced option who could slot into Alonso's possession-oriented system. However, no formal offer has been submitted to Ligue 1 side.
Chelsea are currently playing down their search for a midfielder to avoid inflated price tags. The club's hierarchy is fully aware that rival teams will attempt to exploit their £125 million windfall. Any move for Ruiz or an alternative target is highly unlikely to materialise before the January transfer window, as Chelsea evaluate whether their current squad can sustain their ambitions without further investment.
