Arsenal And Manchester United Monitor Diomande As Sporting CP Set €45M Valuation

Arsenal and Manchester United are tracking Sporting CP's Ousmane Diomande, with the defender reportedly available for a cut-price €45 million fee this summer.

Arsenal and Manchester United are monitoring Sporting CP centre-back Ousmane Diomande ahead of a possible summer move after the Portuguese club reportedly lowered its financial demands for the 22-year-old. While the Ivory Coast international is protected by an €80 million release clause, the Lisbon side is understood to be open to negotiations in the region of €45 million to €50 million following a reported 'gentleman’s agreement' to allow his departure this summer.

Arsenal establish contact for Diomande

According to OneFootball, Arsenal have established contact with Diomande’s representatives to discuss a potential move. The North London club’s hierarchy also utilised the recent UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg at the Emirates Stadium to speak with Sporting officials. As first reported by CaughtOffside, Arsenal requested to be kept informed of the defender's availability, despite previous friction following the £64 million transfer of Viktor Gyökeres between the two clubs in 2025.

The race for the defender remains competitive. Manchester United and Newcastle United also had scouts in attendance during the April 15 fixture in London. Reports in The Sunday Guardian suggest Manchester United have taken a keen interest in the €45 million valuation, viewing the Ivorian as a priority target to refresh their defensive options.

Strategic fit and statistical profile

Diomande’s appeal to Mikel Arteta lies in his proficiency in possession. During the 2025/26 Champions League campaign, the 6ft 3in defender recorded a 93.5% pass completion rate, a metric that aligns with Arsenal’s requirement for high-volume, accurate ball circulation from the back. Despite Arsenal possessing the best defensive record in the Premier League—conceding just 20 goals through 27 matches this season—the pursuit of Diomande suggests a desire to add physical height and technical depth to a backline currently led by William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães.

The €45 million figure represents a significant reduction from his official exit clause, potentially positioning him as a more cost-effective alternative to other elite European defenders who typically command fees upwards of £70 million in the current market.

Contractual status and Sporting’s position

Diomande only recently extended his stay in Lisbon, signing a new contract in January 2026 that ties him to the Estádio José Alvalade until June 2030. Speaking to the club’s official media at the time of the signing, Diomande stated: "Sporting CP are a truly great club. I feel at home here, and that's why I felt it was the right decision."

However, the existence of a verbal agreement to facilitate a move for a specific fee suggests Sporting are prepared for his exit. The club has a history of sanctioning departures for key assets once specific valuations are met, and the €45 million to €50 million range would provide a substantial profit on the initial fee paid to Midtjylland in 2023. With multiple Premier League clubs now active in their pursuit, a bidding war could push the final package closer to the top end of Sporting's expected valuation before the summer window opens.

Formal bids are expected to follow once the domestic league seasons conclude and clubs finalise their summer budgets.
