Bayern Munich Prepare Record Extension For Harry Kane As Manchester United Links Resurface

Harry Kane is set for talks over a lucrative Bayern Munich extension despite Manchester United's interest following their Champions League qualification.

Harry Kane is reportedly nearing a significant contract extension with Bayern Munich that would commit his future to the German champions beyond 2027. Despite persistent links to a Manchester United project led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the 32-year-old England captain is understood to be settled in Bavaria following a prolific 54-goal campaign in the 2025/26 season. While United have secured Champions League qualification for next season, Bayern’s hierarchy expects Kane to reject Premier League interest in favour of a new deal at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich move to secure Kane future

According to reports in Germany, Bayern Munich are preparing a lucrative contract extension to reflect Kane's status as the club's undisputed talisman. The striker joined from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2023 for an initial £86m and has since established himself as the most productive forward in Europe. A reported €65m release clause in his current deal expired in January 2026 without being triggered, a move Bayern Munich Honorary President Uli Hoeness suggests confirms the player's commitment. Speaking to German media, Hoeness noted that by not exercising his release clause, Kane remains under firm contract until at least summer 2027. This stability gives Bayern the leverage to demand a fee well in excess of £100m should any club attempt to lure him back to England.

Manchester United squad overhaul under INEOS

Manchester United’s interest in Kane remains high-profile, but the club is currently prioritising outgoings to balance the squad. While some reports suggested a high probability of a Kane arrival, Fabrizio Romano clarified that his recent "95% chance" assessment referred specifically to midfielder Manuel Ugarte’s likely departure from Old Trafford this summer, rather than a breakthrough in the Kane pursuit. Under the leadership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, United have transitioned toward a recruitment policy focused on younger profiles, exemplified by the 2025 arrival of Benjamin Sesko. However, with Michael Carrick securing a top-four finish, the club reportedly views Kane as the ideal experienced figurehead to mentor their developing frontline. Kane’s decision to engage in extension talks in Munich suggests that breaking Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal record is currently secondary to his pursuit of major silverware in the Bundesliga.

Negotiations between Kane’s representatives and the Bayern board are expected to formalise before the start of pre-season training.
