Casemiro Confirms Manchester United Departure Following Inter Miami Interest

Casemiro has ruled out a Manchester United stay, confirming his summer exit as Inter Miami emerges as the primary destination for the veteran midfielder.

Casemiro, the 34-year-old Manchester United midfielder, has ruled out extending his stay at Old Trafford, confirming he will leave the club as a free agent when his contract expires this June. Speaking to ESPN Brasil, the Brazilian international stated there is "no chance" of a U-turn despite a late-season return to form that saw him score nine goals across all competitions. Both the player and the club have mutually agreed to waive a one-year extension clause in his existing agreement, clearing the way for a move to MLS with Inter Miami currently leading the race for his signature.

Casemiro seeks exit "out the big door"

The midfielder's decision brings an end to a four-year tenure in Manchester following his £60m arrival from Real Madrid in 2022. While his influence waned under former manager Ruben Amorim, Casemiro credited interim boss Michael Carrick for a tactical shift that revitalised his final months. "I kept working to show the coach that he was mistaken about me," Casemiro told ESPN Brasil. "I have to leave on good terms, I have to go out on top. It was four beautiful, wonderful years." According to reports in Spain, the veteran is prepared to accept a significant reduction on his current £375,000-a-week wages to facilitate a move to Inter Miami and play alongside Lionel Messi.

Squad implications and United's midfield succession

By facilitating Casemiro's exit, Manchester United remove the highest earner from their wage bill ahead of a critical summer window. The 34-year-old’s resurgence was pivotal in securing Champions League qualification for the 2026/27 campaign, yet the club’s leadership appears committed to lowering the average age of the squad. United are understood to be monitoring Atalanta's Ederson and Botafogo's Danilo as primary targets to fill the defensive midfield void. These moves align with a broader shift in recruitment strategy following the dismissal of Amorim in early 2026, as the club seeks more mobile, high-intensity options to partner with homegrown talent in the engine room.

The Brazilian is expected to finalise terms with an overseas club once the Premier League season concludes later this month.
