Chelsea Pursue Anthony Gordon As Newcastle Eye Nicolas Jackson For Squad Overhaul

Chelsea target Anthony Gordon as Newcastle eye Nicolas Jackson to replace Alexander Isak, with the Magpies facing a £75m valuation and UEFA financial pressure.

Chelsea are considering a summer move for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, 25, as a potential deal involves the return of Nicolas Jackson to the Premier League. According to FootballTransfers, Newcastle have rekindled interest in the 24-year-old Chelsea striker following Bayern Munich’s decision not to trigger their €65 million (£56m) option to buy him after a season-long loan. Newcastle have reportedly set a minimum valuation of £75 million for Gordon, whose departure may be necessary to satisfy UEFA Squad Cost Ratio (SCR) regulations despite the club’s £125 million sale of Alexander Isak to Liverpool in 2025.

Newcastle's financial reality and Gordon's valuation

While Anthony Gordon is under contract at St James' Park until June 2030, Newcastle's financial position has forced a re-evaluation of their undisputed starters. Speaking on the club's fiscal constraints, Newcastle CEO David Hopkinson told Chronicle Live that while the club can spend this summer, they "will have to sell a star player in order to make a box office signing." This necessity is compounded by a £172 million stadium leasehold transaction currently under UEFA scrutiny. Gordon, who recorded 17 goals and five assists during the 2025/26 campaign, is the club's most marketable asset. The Times reports that Newcastle are now open to offers between £75 million and £80 million to fund a broader squad overhaul under SCR pressures.

Tactical shift and the Jackson factor

Chelsea’s renewed pursuit of Gordon, a player they have tracked since his Everton tenure, stems from a lack of production from wide areas. Recent signings Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens have struggled for consistency, whereas Gordon offers proven Premier League efficiency. The move is further smoothed by Nicolas Jackson’s availability. Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl confirmed on April 26 that the German club "will not trigger the option" for the Senegal international. For Newcastle, Jackson represents a tactical solution to the void left by Isak. Given Chelsea paid £32 million for Jackson in 2023, his inclusion in negotiations could significantly lower the cash outlay required for Gordon while resolving Newcastle's search for a frontline striker.

Negotiations are expected to accelerate ahead of the June transfer window as both clubs look to balance their books before the new accounting period.
