Fulham Open Contract Talks With Calvin Bassey To Head Off Inter Milan Interest

Fulham have opened talks over a new four-year deal for defender Calvin Bassey amid transfer interest from Inter Milan, Newcastle, and Tottenham.

Fulham have decided to offer defender Calvin Bassey a new four-year contract to stave off growing interest from Italian giants Inter Milan, according to reports from TeamTalk and Owngoal Nigeria.

The 26-year-old, who was named Fulham's Player of the Season for the 2024/25 campaign, is under contract at Craven Cottage until June 2027, with the club holding an option to extend the deal by a further year. However, Fulham officials are keen to secure the defender's long-term future and protect his market value. Negotiators face an immediate hurdle, with reports indicating that the club and player are currently some way apart on financial terms.

Premier League and European interest in Bassey

Bassey's impressive performances since his £19 million move from Ajax in July 2023 have made him a target for several top clubs. Alongside interest from Serie A side Inter Milan, Premier League rivals Newcastle United, Bournemouth, and Tottenham Hotspur have all reportedly monitored the versatile defender. He has established himself as a vital cog in the Fulham defence, capable of playing both at left-back and as a left-sided centre-back.

While Fulham hold the leverage of the one-year option to prevent a cut-price summer departure, securing a formal extension remains the priority to ward off suitors. Whether Inter Milan translate their monitoring into a formal offer, or if Bassey can bridge the gap in salary expectations with Fulham, remains to be seen as negotiations continue.
