Liverpool are reportedly monitoring Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara and Bournemouth's Alex Scott as they draw up long-term plans to reinforce their engine room. According to reports by TEAMtalk and the Mirror, the Reds held exploratory talks with the representatives of 22-year-old Senegal international Camara on transfer deadline day following the collapse of his proposed £47.1 million (€55m) move to Chelsea. The Merseyside club have registered their interest in a potential move for the Monaco player in 2027, whilst also keeping tabs on Bournemouth's £80 million-rated midfielder Scott.
The collapsed deadline-day deal and Camara interest
The collapsed deadline-day deal between Chelsea and Monaco has opened the door for Liverpool to position themselves for a future transfer. TEAMtalk reports that Liverpool officials made contact with Camara's camp on 31 August to outline their long-term plans, which could see a formal bid launched in either January or the summer of 2027. Concurrently, Liverpool are tracking 23-year-old Alex Scott, with reports in the Liverpool Echo indicating the Bournemouth midfielder is highly valued at £80 million. Former Liverpool midfielder Vladimir Smicer, speaking to the Liverpool Echo, noted that manager Andoni Iraola's familiarity with Scott remains a significant factor in the player's development and market appeal.
Squad dynamics and future Anfield departures
These targeted moves come amid potential long-term shifts in Liverpool's central options. Speaking on the Anfield Index podcast, journalist David Lynch noted that Argentina international Alexis Mac Allister was considered a candidate to leave the club this summer, though a transfer did not materialise. As Liverpool prepare for potential future departures in central midfield, the recruitment team is actively mapping out successor profiles. While academy graduate Trey Nyoni is being integrated into the first-team setup, the pursuit of established profiles like Camara and Scott highlights a desire for proven top-tier reinforcement. Any successful move for Camara would likely require matching the €55 million valuation previously accepted by Monaco.
