Harry Kane Enters Bayern Munich Extension Talks As Manchester United Focus Shifts To Squad Exits

Harry Kane has opened talks over a new Bayern Munich contract through 2031, while Manchester United pivot toward younger targets and the sale of Manuel Ugarte.

Harry Kane is in negotiations with Bayern Munich over a contract extension beyond 2027, according to reports from Fabrizio Romano, effectively ending immediate prospects of a return to the Premier League with Manchester United. The 32-year-old England captain is understood to be settled in Germany following a prolific 2025/26 campaign, while United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is prioritising a recruitment policy centred on younger profiles and wage bill reduction. While a reported £57m release clause expired earlier this year, Bayern now view the striker as non-transferable as they look to secure his future through 2031.

Kane form and Bayern Munich contract status

Following his €100m move from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023, Kane has maintained a scoring rate that makes a summer exit highly improbable. As reported by The Peoples Person, the striker has registered 54 goals and seven assists in 46 appearances during the 2025/26 season. This exceptional output has prompted Bayern to open talks over a new long-term deal. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano stated that "Bayern believe that Harry Kane is gonna end up staying at the club even after the World Cup." This stance is reinforced by Bayern Honorary President Uli Hoeness, who recently suggested that if other market targets are valued at €150m, Kane’s value to the Bavarian club exceeds €250m.

Manchester United recruitment strategy and Ugarte exit

The reported "95% chance" often associated with United’s summer business actually refers to the likely departure of midfielder Manuel Ugarte rather than a move for Kane. Romano clarified on the Daily Briefing that the 25-year-old Uruguayan is the primary candidate to leave Old Trafford to facilitate squad rebuilding. Under the management of Michael Carrick, United have focused on younger talent, such as 22-year-old forward Benjamin Sesko, who joined in 2025. Despite Ratcliffe's long-standing admiration for Kane, the financial package required for a player of his age contradicts the club's current PSR-conscious strategy. United’s recent Champions League qualification provides a stable platform, but the hierarchy appears committed to lowering the average age of the starting XI rather than pursuing a record-breaking deal for a veteran 30-plus striker.

With Kane’s camp and Bayern officials now discussing terms for a renewal, the focus at Carrington remains on offloading high-earners to fund younger targets in the summer window.
