Kobbie Mainoo Signs Five-Year Manchester United Contract Extension

Kobbie Mainoo has signed a new five-year contract with Manchester United until 2031, following a significant pay rise to £150,000 per week.

Manchester United have secured the long-term future of Kobbie Mainoo, with the 21-year-old midfielder signing a five-year contract extension that runs until June 2031. According to the official club announcement on 30 April 2026, the deal replaces his previous agreement and reflects his transition into a cornerstone of the first-team squad. Reports from the Manchester Evening News indicate the package includes a 500% salary increase, moving Mainoo from roughly £25,000 per week to a figure in the region of £150,000.

Mainoo’s recovery from the Ruben Amorim era

The renewal marks a significant shift in Mainoo's status at Old Trafford following a period of uncertainty. Under former manager Ruben Amorim, the academy graduate saw his opportunities restricted, playing just 213 minutes of Premier League football during the first half of the 2025/26 season. This lack of game time led to reported interest from Napoli and Chelsea as Mainoo ostensibly weighed up a loan move to secure regular football. However, the appointment of Michael Carrick as interim manager in January 2026 served as the catalyst for this extension; Mainoo was immediately restored to the starting XI and has since featured in 12 of the last 13 matches.

Tactical importance and squad hierarchy

The decision to commit Mainoo to a six-figure weekly wage aligns him with the club's existing senior starters, rewarding his output since his breakout 2023/24 campaign. Having already made 98 senior appearances and scored seven goals—including the decisive strike in the 2024 FA Cup final—Mainoo is viewed by the hierarchy as essential to United's tactical identity. Speaking to the club's media following the announcement, Mainoo described the club as his "home" and stated he relishes the responsibility of the shirt. Director of Football Jason Wilcox added that the midfielder is expected to play a "pivotal role" as United, currently sitting third in the Premier League, push for consistent Champions League qualification and major silverware.

With his future now resolved, Mainoo is expected to anchor the United midfield for the remainder of the domestic campaign as the club looks to secure its highest league finish since 2021.
