Liverpool Monitor Victor Froholdt Following Porto Title Success

Liverpool are reportedly monitoring Porto midfielder Victor Froholdt, who holds a £73.4m release clause, following his standout title-winning season in Portugal.

Liverpool, Arsenal, and Newcastle United are tracking FC Porto midfielder Victor Froholdt following a prolific debut season in Portugal that culminated in a Primeira Liga title. According to reporting from Danish outlet Bold, recruitment chiefs at Anfield are particularly enamoured with the 20-year-old Danish international, who remains protected by an €85 million (£73.4 million) release clause. Froholdt, who only joined Porto from FC Copenhagen in July 2025 for an initial €20 million, has seen his valuation more than triple after registering six goals and five assists across 32 appearances this term.

Porto’s strong position and Froholdt’s career arc

The sheer speed of Froholdt's ascent has left Porto in a commanding negotiating position. The midfielder is under contract until June 2030 and recently reiterated his commitment to the club. Speaking to reporters following Porto's title win, Froholdt stated he would "love to continue here next season" to experience Champions League football with the Dragons. This follows a high-pressure 12 months for the youngster, who made his senior Denmark debut against Portugal in March 2025 before becoming Copenhagen’s record sale. Bold notes that Froholdt "only wins titles," having secured a domestic double in Denmark immediately prior to his move to the Estádio do Dragão. His knack for decisive contributions in trophy-winning sides makes him a primary target for clubs looking to add proven winners to their engine room.

Tactical fit and Liverpool’s midfield evolution

For Liverpool, interest in Froholdt suggests a continuing evolution of the midfield under Arne Slot. Despite a significant spend in the previous summer window on the likes of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, the squad face looming decisions regarding the long-term roles of existing personnel. With Curtis Jones entering the final two years of his current deal in 2025 and ongoing speculation regarding the configuration of Slot’s preferred trio, Froholdt offers a high-output alternative. His statistical return of 11 goal involvements from midfield surpasses the production of Liverpool’s current central options, bar the more advanced Wirtz. Given the fixed nature of his £73.4 million release clause, any move would represent a significant investment comparable to the £60 million paid for Dominik Szoboszlai in 2023, though Porto’s guaranteed Champions League status remains the primary hurdle for any Premier League suitor this summer.

While interest from the English top flight is accelerating, Froholdt's immediate focus remains on Denmark’s upcoming international fixtures.
