Manchester United have completed the permanent sale of 19-year-old academy forward Gabriele Biancheri to Austrian second-tier side FC Wacker Innsbruck. The transfer was finalised after the English transfer window closed, taking advantage of the Austrian registration window remaining open until September 3. Manchester United confirmed the agreement in an official statement, noting the deal remains subject to final registration.
Biancheri's development and Manchester United exit
Biancheri originally joined United’s youth setup from Cardiff City in 2023 and quickly established a reputation as a clinical finisher, scoring 16 goals in 45 appearances for the Under-21 side. Despite his strong scoring record at youth level, the 19-year-old striker departs Old Trafford without registering a first-team appearance under manager Michael Carrick. To aid his physical development, United previously sanctioned a short-term loan to League One outfit Rotherham United during the second half of last season, where the forward made 11 senior appearances. Rather than remaining in the Premier League 2 system or securing another domestic loan, Biancheri has opted for a permanent overseas challenge to establish himself in senior football.
Wacker Innsbruck's project and squad pathway
The transfer represents a significant coup for the Austrian second-tier side, who are looking to rebuild their squad with high-potential young players. Wacker Innsbruck sporting director Jakob Griesebner praised the forward's pedigree, stating that Biancheri’s education at United and his Welsh youth international experience make him an "extremely exciting" addition. Griesebner added that the signing reinforces the club's strategy of developing young players in a senior environment. Speaking to his new club's official website, Biancheri expressed his eagerness to adapt to a new league, noting that the move allows him to test himself "outside my comfort zone in Great Britain" and contribute to Wacker's long-term rebuilding project. The move is expected to grant the teenager immediate first-team exposure as Wacker Innsbruck push for promotion back to the Austrian top flight.
