Mason Mount Signals Manchester United Stay Despite Mounting Exit Speculation

Mason Mount has dismissed exit rumours by confirming his desire to win the Premier League with Manchester United next season as INEOS block summer transfer bids.

Mason Mount has confirmed his intention to remain at Manchester United for the 2026/27 season, effectively dismissing rumours of a summer departure through a public commitment to the club's long-term targets. Speaking to BBC Sport at a charity event, the 27-year-old midfielder stated he plans to be a "massive part" of the squad next term, citing a personal ambition to add a Premier League title to the Champions League medal he won at Chelsea. Despite interest from Aston Villa and Fulham, co-owners INEOS are understood to have reached an agreement with the player to retain him at Old Trafford, where his current contract runs until June 2028 with a further one-year option.

Mount remains central to INEOS midfield planning

The decision to keep Mount comes at a pivotal moment for United's midfield architecture under Michael Carrick. With Casemiro widely expected to depart as a free agent and Manuel Ugarte linked with a move away, the squad requires established technical profiles to maintain depth for a likely Champions League return. Since his £55 million arrival in 2023, Mount has been restricted by persistent physical setbacks, missing 43 of a possible 105 Premier League matches. This lack of continuity has seen his market valuation drop to approximately €30m, but the club hierarchy appears focused on his tactical utility rather than crystallising a loss on his initial €68m package.

Overcoming a stop-start Old Trafford career

By April 2026, Mount had managed just seven goals across nearly three seasons, a tally far below the output that prompted United to sanctioned a significant outlay for his signature. His last Premier League start before his most recent injury layoff came against Newcastle in December 2025, illustrating the difficulty he has faced in securing a consistent run in the first team. Former Chelsea assistant Jody Morris recently noted on the Manchester Evening News podcast that the player's tenure has been too disrupted to properly evaluate his fit. However, by publicly targeting the league title, Mount has aligned himself with the club's new sporting direction under INEOS, suggesting the 2026 summer window will be a period of consolidation rather than an exit for the midfielder.

The club is expected to focus recruitment efforts on targets such as Elliot Anderson and Aurélien Tchouameni to complement the existing engine room.
