Aston Villa completed the signing of striker Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea for a club-record fee of £65 million on a five-year contract, as first confirmed by the Press Association. The 25-year-old Senegal international moves to Villa Park as a direct replacement for Ollie Watkins, who completed a £50 million move to Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal. Despite Chelsea sanctioning the permanent departure, high-profile pundits Micah Richards and Gary Lineker have publicly backed the forward to thrive under the guidance of Unai Emery.
Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Richards argued that Chelsea were wrong to part with the striker. "Everyone's just fascinated with stats and goals or assists," Richards said. "But if you actually use your eyes to watch the game, he's got so much ability on the ball. His touch around the corner, his awareness when to run in behind, when to drop deep, link up. If he could work on just finishing, that composure when he gets into that final third, I think he could be one of the top strikers in Europe." Reuniting with Unai Emery at Villa Park
A primary factor behind the optimism surrounding Jackson's move is his history with Emery. The pair previously worked together at La Liga side Villarreal, where Jackson made 27 appearances under the Basque coach. Jackson has previously credited the manager with shaping his tactical development, stating, "Unai taught me everything about football." At Villarreal, Emery was instrumental in translating Jackson's natural, instinctive running and dribbling ability into a structured, highly effective tactical role.
