West Ham To Block £160M Trio Exit As Retainment Strategy Takes Priority

West Ham will resist offers for Jarrod Bowen, Crysencio Summerville, and Mateus Fernandes this summer, pivoting their PSR strategy toward other high-value exits.

West Ham United are prepared to reject all transfer approaches for Jarrod Bowen, Crysencio Summerville, and Mateus Fernandes this summer as the club looks to build around a core offensive unit. According to TEAMtalk, the Hammers hierarchy has categorised the trio as untouchable provided Premier League status is maintained, despite significant interest from Liverpool, Manchester City, and Manchester United. While the club has acknowledged a need to sell players to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), the board intends to fund recruitment through the potential departures of Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus rather than sanctioning a triple exit valued at roughly £160 million.

Contractual Leverage and the Bowen Stance

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have long-standing interests in Jarrod Bowen, 27, currently valued at £60 million by the London Stadium board. However, West Ham hold significant negotiating power following the winger's decision to sign a seven-year contract extension in October 2023. This deal, which runs until June 2030, was designed specifically to protect his market value and deter domestic rivals. Speaking at the time of the renewal, Bowen noted that committing his long-term future to the club was a priority for his family, and a spokesperson for the owners has recently reiterated that the winger "is not for sale." This stance creates a stark contrast to the situation of Mohammed Kudus, whose £85 million release clause—negotiated upon his arrival from Ajax in 2023—removes the club's ability to block a move if the figure is met.

Squad Rebuild and Midfield Interest

The decision to shield 21-year-old midfielder Mateus Fernandes from the market comes amid escalating interest from Europe's elite. Since his arrival at West Ham, Fernandes has drawn scouts from Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and both Manchester clubs. Retaining Fernandes and 24-year-old winger Crysencio Summerville is viewed as essential for the tactical continuity desired under Nuno Espirito Santo. Strategically, the club is more likely to sanction the sale of Lucas Paqueta to address PSR concerns. Paqueta was the subject of an £80 million bid from Manchester City in August 2023, and although FA investigations into alleged betting breaches saw that deal collapse, he remains the most probable high-value departure alongside Kudus. By offloading players with existing release clauses or disciplinary uncertainties, the Hammers hope to protect the younger, long-term assets currently forming the spine of their attack.

West Ham are expected to demand the full payment of any release clauses for Paqueta or Kudus before considering negotiations for their protected trio.
