Barcelona are planning to open contract-extension negotiations with Brazilian winger Raphinha to secure his long-term future, following rumoured transfer interest from Premier League clubs Chelsea and Arsenal.
According to reports from Spanish outlets AS and El Nacional, both Chelsea and Arsenal are prepared to double the salary of the 29-year-old winger to convince him to return to the Premier League. However, Barcelona have no intention of selling Raphinha, whose current contract at the Spotify Camp Nou runs until June 2028. Instead, the Catalan club is preparing to offer him a contract extension, with reports suggesting they intend to add one or two further seasons to his existing deal.
Barcelona sporting director Deco confirmed the club's intentions in an interview with radio station El Món a RAC 1. "He's happy here. Flick has brought out the best in him. I see him doing very well," Deco said. "A contract renewal? We're keeping a close eye on our players so nothing catches us off guard. We also value merit. We'll talk to him." Under head coach Hansi Flick, Raphinha has enjoyed a sensational start to the season, scoring eight goals in official competitions and establishing himself as a vital leader and captain in the dressing room.
While Chelsea remain linked with the former Leeds United attacker, some analysts argue that the Blues' squad is already heavily stocked in wide positions. Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has the likes of Cole Palmer, Estevao Willian, and Pedro Neto at his disposal. Consequently, observers suggest Chelsea would be better served focusing their resources on central midfield and central defense in upcoming transfer windows. Formal talks between Barcelona and Raphinha's representatives are expected to begin in the coming weeks.
